The Heir:
Oh, The Heir. Yes it has been an interesting ride so far. No, I DIDNT know you were coming. But I welcome you with open arms. If you haven't read The Selection Series, its a trilogy that I highly recommend. I've talked about it several times on this blog. You can see it here and here. Even though I didn't like Eadlyn at first AT ALL, she really grew on me. I ship her and Kyle honestly, although Henri and her would be really sweet together. I honestly don't know how she'll chose, but I have a sinking feeling about Ean and his power-hungriness.Oh and Jack, of course there has to be the rapist boy, but I guess you could balance out the "inequality" of that with the "slut" girls like Celeste. ALthough I cringe saying that cause she was the best and now she's dead. Oops, spoiler. Oh, and the covers for all of these books are so pretty. Just look at that dress, omg. The one scene I really didn't like though was when she publicly dismissed her Selected. That was way too cruel. I do think she started to learn she couldn't do stuff like that and while she's nothing on my favs Maxon, America, Celeste, Aspen, and Marlye, at least they show up in the book. So, go read The Selection if you haven't and hurry to get to the Heir, one of my favorite books of 2015.
Wonder:
Please please PLEASE read Wonder. I know I've already talked about this book WAY too much, so I'll make this quick. Its about a young boy who has an unusual type of face, with his eyes and nose in the "wrong" spot and he has difficulty breathing and smiling because of it. HIs name is Auggie, and he's just starting fifth grade. As you can imagine, some fifth graders are pretty tasteless, like Julian, the class bully. (You can read more about Julian and his backstory in The Julian Chapter in the companion book Auggie and Me) This book not only is funny, emotional, and entertaining, but it tells the important story of those who look different and what they experience. It reminds me of Out of My Mind, which I ALSO recommend.
Before I go on, a quick intermission. You're in for a treat. These are the books I DONT recommend. Shocker, right?
-The Red Queen. It was a good enough writing style and basic idea, but the plot was predictable and the plot twist at the end didn't have me begging to read the next book.
-The Living. I read this one for book club and…no. Just no. The characters sucked. Shay was a typical hormonal guy all for cheating with the hot girl (who SHOCKER is engaged and SHOCKER her fiancee is a terrible person) on his cruise ship job. Addie is the classic bratty, white, blonde rich girl. And Carmen is the typical hot girl. The plot had a chance. Survival story after a (cliche) "The Big One"" earthquake strikes California. But NO. There has to be the typical government disease. I knew from the second "Romero Disease" was affecting only the poor peole and government agents were involved what was up. Oh, and the government agents just have to kill everyone on the island with machine guns. But who gets out? Carmen, Shay, and Addie. Dang it. Oh, and Shoeshine. He's cool. Anyway, done ranting. Don't read this book
-We'll Always Have Summer. Okay this book doesn't deserve to be on here but…let me explain. I picked up this book, thought it looked interesting, and started reading. Its basically about a girl who whose boyfriend proposed but she used to date his brother so she kinda still liked the brother and either way the family didn't approve because she was still in college. Didn't like the book. Predicatable plot (spoiler: she choses the brother), and little to no backstory. I had just finished ranting to my friends when I turned the book over, took a look, and started to frantically Google. Turns out, this is the 3rd book in a series. No wonder it didn't have a backstory...
And for my final favorite book of 2015….. *drumroll*
Catch A Falling Star:
I know, I know. I wrote a whole review about this. You are SO done with hearing about it. And yeah, I probably shouldn't have taken the easy route out and written about a book I already talked about but I DID. So, deal. :) All joking aside, pleaseeee read this book. Its about teenaged girl Carter living in a small town aptly named Little. When movie star Adam Jakes and his crew come to Little to film a movie, things get mixing. Carter is hired as a girlfriend. No, really. She gets paid and has a script and everything. While most girls would be ecstatic to date a movie star, Carter is less than pleased. Things get even rockier when you throw in Carter's gambling-addicted gang-affilted brother and Adam's drug scandal. If that doesn't sound interesting, toss a little REAL love into the mix, and this book cooks up to be AMAZING and one of my favorite books of 2015.
Before you go, I'd like to share a recipe with you.
